The World's Best Football Team (According To FIFA22)

03.November 2021 by Calum Walker

WHAT IS THE BEST POSSIBLE FIFA22 TEAM?

It's a question as old as football itself: if you could make a team with any players you wanted - who would make it?

Every fan will have their own opinion. But the boffins on FIFA's ratings team are probably better qualified than most. After all, it's their job to rate each and every player in the game.

This post reveals the World XI according to FIFA22. To make things simple, we stuck to a classic 4-3-3 formation and picked the best player in each position.

Oh, and in case you're wondering: Every player is shown on their club's special CardsPlug card design. We recently launched this collection to celebrate over 20 of Europe's most famous teams.

Let's start with the team's back line. As we name the best goalkeeper and best defenders in FIFA22.

THE BEST GOALKEEPER IN FIFA22

The honour of being FIFA22's best keeper goes to Atletico Madrid's Jan Oblak.

The Slovak shot stopper has been consistently excellent over the last few years. And it's enough to bag him an overall rating of 91 - which sees him beat a host of big names into our World XI's number 1 jersey.

Honourable Mentions: Marc Andre Ter Stegen, Barcelona (90); Manuel Neuer, Bayern Munich (90); Gianluigi Donnarumma, PSG (89); Alisson, Liverpool (89); Thibaut Courtois, Real Madrid (89); Ederson, Man City (89).

THE BEST RIGHT BACK IN FIFA 22

FIFA 22's highest rated Right Back is Liverpool's Trent Alexander Arnold.

Despite losing his place in the England team last year, Trent enjoyed an impressive end to last season and has started this campaign very strongly.

Alexander Arnold's rating of 87 puts him just clear of the other top players in this position. With Trent's huge passing rating of 88 being a decisive factor.

Honourable Mentions: Joao Cancelo, Man City (86); Achraf Hakimi, PSG (85); Kyle Walker, Man City (85); Carvajal, Real Madrid (85).

THE BEST LEFT BACK IN FIFA22

On to FIFA22's best left-back and Liverpool make another appearance. As Scotland's Andy Robertson takes the honour of FIFA22's highest rated left back with a rating of 87.

There can't be much arguing with this one. After all, Robbo has won the Champions League and Premier League in the last couple of seasons. And who wouldn't want Liverpool's full-backs in their team?

Honourable Mentions: Jordi Alba, Barcelona (86); Luke Shaw, Man United (84); Marcos Acuna, Sevilla (84); Theo Hernandez, AC Milan (84); Lucas Digne, Everton (84); Raphael Guerreiro, Borussia Dortmund (84).

THE BEST CENTRE BACKS IN FIFA 22

FIFA 22's best centre back plays for - you guessed it - Liverpool. Yup, Virgil Van Dijk takes top spot in the centre of our World XI's defence. As his overall rating of 89 puts him in a class of his own.

Given the number of Reds in this back line, you'd be forgiven for thinking Joel Matip might be our second centre-back. But unfortunately for you Liverpool fans out there, it's time to give another team's players a chance!

That's because the second best centre back in FIFA22 is PSG's Sergio Ramos. Who, despite being a veteran at 35, commands a huge rating of 88.

Ramos is an absolute legend of the game. And in the eyes of FIFA's ratings team, he still has enough to beat some younger contenders into our 2nd centre back spot.

Honourable Mentions: Marquinhos, PSG (87); Ruben Dias, Man City (87), Matts Hummels, Borussia Dortmund (86); Raphael Varane, Manchester United (86); Milan Skriniar, Inter Milan (86); Aymeric Laporte, Man City(86); Kalidou Koulibaly, Napoli; Giorgio Chiellini, Juventus (86)

THE BEST CENTRE MIDFIELDERS IN FIFA 22

The first place in our midfield goes to FIFA22's best Centre Midfielder, Kevin De Bruyne. The Man City star is a joy to watch and commands an overall rating of 91 - the fourth best of any player in the game.

Next in the team is Chelsea's N'Golo Kante, who does a very different job to an equally world-class standard. Kante's overall rating of 90 makes him the highest rated CDM in FIFA22 -  and we can't think of a single coach who wouldn't love him in their squad.

The final berth in our 3 man midfield was a very, very tight call. In the end, the jersey goes to Bayern Munich's Joshua Kimmich. Kimmich's 89 rating is the same as that of Real Madrid's Casemiro. But the German's versatility gives him the edge.

Honourable Mentions: Casemiro, Real Madrid (89); Bruno Fernandes, Manchester United (88); Toni Kroos, Real Madrid (88).

THE BEST LEFT WINGER IN FIFA 22

As the best left-winger in FIFA22 by a distance, Paris St Germain's Neymar easily makes it into our team.

The Brazilian skillster's 91 rating puts him a whole 3 points clear of his nearest challenger for the left wing position. And it also makes him the 5th best player in FIFA22 as a whole.

Honourable Mentions: Heung Min-Son, Tottenham (89); Sadio Mane, Liverpool (89); Raheem Sterling, Man City (88).

THE BEST RIGHT WINGER IN FIFA 22

You might be wondering where Messi has been this whole time - but fear not.

The Argentine star is still the best player on FIFA22. And with an overall rating of 93, PSG's man is miles ahead of anyone else in his position.

The only question is for how long it will last. As Messi gets older, he's more likely to experience a downgrade. While a certain Egyptian at Liverpool will surely see a point or two added to his rating in FIFA23.

For now, though, the king reigns supreme.

Honourable Mentions: Mo Salah, Liverpool (89); Jadon Sancho, Manchester United (87); Angel Di Maria, PSG (87); Riyad Mahrez, Manchester City (86).

THE BEST STRIKER IN FIFA 22

We promised there was a bit of controversy in our team. So far, it's been pretty clear cut. But this - THIS - is the controversial part.

The problem is that we can only choose one striker in a 4-3-3.

That means Manchester United's Cristiano Ronaldo does NOT make the cut. As Ronaldo's overall rating of 91 is only good enough for joint 2nd place in this position.

Because instead of Ronaldo, the honour of being FIFA 22's best striker goes to Bayern Munich's Robert Lewandowski. Or as Thomas Muller would say, Robert Lewan-goalski. Get it?

The Polish hitman's new rating of 92 moves him above Ronaldo into 2nd place in the entire game. Given Lewandowski's unbelievable record in the Bundesliga last season, we think he deserves it for now.

Honourable Mentions: Cristiano Ronaldo, Manchester United (91) ; Kylian Mbappe, PSG (91); Harry Kane, Tottenham (90); Karim Benzema, Real Madrid (89).
